I'm passionate about
I am a dedicated educator and leader passionate about fostering student autonomy, promoting lifelong learning, and enhancing mathematics education.
Student autonomy is crucial in modern education. Empowering students to take charge of their learning makes them engaged participants and equips them with essential skills for a complex global society. I strive to create environments that prioritize choice, involvement, and leadership.
With over 25 years of experience, I embody lifelong learning. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Marketing, two Master of Education degrees, and a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership. I aim to inspire students and educators to pursue continuous knowledge and growth.
I have extensive experience in mathematics education, having worked as a numeracy coach in Brunei and a math teacher in various international settings. My focus is on enhancing instruction and helping students grasp fundamental mathematical concepts.
I serve as the Secondary Vice Principal of Middle School at The International School of Macao, emphasizing empowering students and promoting academic excellence.
An idea worth spreading
As an experienced educator and administrator, I, Dr. Sarah Ogiamien, am passionate about fostering diverse school leadership opportunities to create inclusive and empowered learning environments. As Vice Principal of Middle School at The International School of Macao, I have worked tirelessly to implement initiatives encouraging students from various backgrounds to take on leadership roles. I must nurture a culture of equity and representation where every student feels valued.
One of the highlights of my efforts has been organizing the TEDxTIS Macao Youth event, which showcases my commitment to amplifying student voices. This platform allows young individuals to share their ideas and insights, breaking down barriers and giving them the stage they deserve.
I firmly believe that giving students the opportunity to lead and express themselves supports their personal growth and enriches the educational experience for everyone involved. My work constantly emphasizes the importance of promoting diverse leadership within academic settings, aiming to cultivate inclusive, vibrant, and progressive communities.
The TED story
My TED Journey
Collaborating with three incredible partners—Kate Evans, Joyce Francis, and Asiaanna Stuart—and twelve remarkable students—Samuel Liang, Carmen Chan, Kirsy Chiconela, Gigi Wong, Hebe Woon, Elvis Chiang, Isabella Lei, Cloris Yan, Aurélio Júnior, Silvia Shi, Ethan Yau, and Joy Wang—has been a transformative expedition brimming with excitement, discovery, and inspiration.
Together, we embarked on the TEDx TIS Macao Youth 2025 journey, unlocking our students' voices, passions, and extraordinary talents. Each moment along this path has illuminated their unique skills and the boundless potential within them.
Witnessing their evolution, bravery, and resonance of voices has been exhilarating and profoundly fulfilling. It serves as a poignant reminder of this work's importance, which deserves recognition and celebration.
