Bio
Fusion Physicist (but really, Aerospace Engineer). B.S., Caltech. M.S. & Ph.D., University of California, San Diego. Member of the team that achieved fusion ignition in December 2022 at the National Ignition Facility, demonstrating more energy from fusion than the energy used to drive it for the first time in history. Serves on the U.S. Department of Energy’s Fusion Energy Sciences Advisory Committee (FESAC), where she has helped author a long-range plan for U.S. efforts in fusion, and in 2022 chaired a Basic Research Needs in Inertial Fusion Energy. California Assembly District 16 “Woman of the Year” (2019). Department of Energy Early Career Research Awardee (2018). Young Scientist of the World Economic Forum (2017). Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) Awardee (2016). Fellow of the American Physical Society. Occasional science writer and frequent STEM education advocate.
