Nour E. Rawafi

Dr. Nour E. Rawafi is an astrophysicist, a senior scientist at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (Laurel, Maryland), and the project scientist for NASA's Parker Solar Probe mission. He earned his Ph.D. in Astrophysics with distinction from the Paris-Saclay University (France). Dr. Rawafi has conducted groundbreaking research at esteemed institutions, including the Observatory of Turin (Italy), the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research (Göttingen, Germany), and the National Solar Observatory (Tucson, Arizona). Dr. Rawafi's extensive research portfolio encompasses a diverse array of solar and space phenomena, with a particular emphasis on the dynamic solar corona, including solar magnetic fields, polarimetry, coronal plumes and jets, coronal mass ejections and shock waves, solar wind, energetic particles, and cometary physics. With an impressive publication record, he has authored and co-authored over 200 peer-reviewed papers and meeting proceedings, reflecting the depth and breadth of his contributions to the field. Dr. Rawafi has been recognized with numerous prestigious team and individual awards. These accolades include the NASA Silver Achievement Medal, the AAS Neil Armstrong Award, the National Space Club and Foundation's Nelson P. Jackson Award, the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) Laurels Award, NASA's Group Achievement Award, the IAA Basic Science Award, and the APL's Outstanding Special Publication 2016 and 2022 Awards. His dedication and contributions have significantly advanced the success of the Parker Solar Probe mission.
