An idea worth spreading
I once read a book titled "Non Places" that contained a few really
great ideas, including the concept of a "non place." These places
include bus stops, airports, shopping malls, department stores...
they're all around us.
And what do they all have in common? They are exactly how we expect
them to be. As consumers, we wander in and out of these spaces all the
time without being surprised. These places become insular and
protective. They do not encourage us to interact in a creative way. We
become "creatures of habit," and feel more comfortable this way.
But when do we know when our comfortable habits have gone too far?
When we no longer have to think and assess a situation or place. Human
beings thrive on stimulating changes and challenges.
To be at our creative and productive best, we must find ways to add
more random, thought provoking stimuli to the common environment.
