Chezare A. Warren

Chezare A. Warren, PhD is an author, artist, and nationally recognized scholar of race and intersectional justice whose research aims to clarify the conditions that facilitate Black children’s education well-being. He is affiliated faculty in African American and Diaspora Studies in Vanderbilt’s College of Arts and Science, and principal investigator (PI) of The Possibilities Project (www.tppcollaborative.com), an “arts-informed knowledge hub” committed to generating and amplifying evidence-based Black education solutions. Hailing from Chicago, IL, Dr. Warren began his professional career as a middle school math teacher and instructional coach. He went on to join the faculty at Michigan State University in 2014 where he served for seven years prior to becoming the Associate Professor of Equity & Inclusion in Education Policy Vanderbilt. Dr. Warren is a 2019 National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine/Ford Postdoctoral Fellow, and he has held visiting faculty appointments at New York University, University of Pennsylvania, and Stanford University. Recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, Dr. Warren’s research has been published in top peer-reviewed outlets that include Educational Researcher, Urban Education, and Journal of Teacher Education. He’s received more than $1.3 million in research funding as PI or Co-PI from agencies that include the Spencer Foundation, William T. Grant Foundation, and Kellogg Foundation. Author of two books including Urban Preparation (Harvard Education Press, 2017) and Centering Possibility in Black Education (Teachers College Press, 2021), Dr. Warren is a highly celebrated teacher, nationally sought after speaker and clinician.
