Bio
Magnus Drechsler is an innovative international educational leader and a passionate advocate for sustainability, equality, and student agency. With a diverse academic background—holding a B.Sc. in Medicinal Chemistry and an M.A. in International Educational Leadership from the UK—Magnus has dedicated his career to shaping learners into successful, responsible global citizens.
A true experiential learning enthusiast, Magnus believes in education that transcends the traditional classroom. He is the visionary creator of Phoenix Talks, a dynamic annual festival of learning where senior high school students take the stage to present their rigorous academic research, ethical reflections, and community service initiatives. By empowering students with choice, voice, and ownership, Phoenix Talks has become a celebrated platform that transforms standard curriculums into vibrant showcases of student resilience and leadership.
Throughout his international teaching career, Magnus has served as a curriculum coordinator and sustainability leader across the UK, China, and Malaysia. During his time in Shanghai, he founded an annual multi-school eco-explorer camp, an immersive initiative that brought hundreds of students across Asia together to tackle global sustainability issues and implement actionable green initiatives in their own communities.
Currently serving as an Assistant Principal and International Baccalaureate (IB) Coordinator at IGB International School in Kuala Lumpur, Magnus continues to champion programs that bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world impact. Outside of his professional endeavors, he is a dedicated husband, a father to third-culture twin boys, and a continuous learner on a journey to promote holistic health and wellbeing
