Leslie Tom

Leslie Tom is an award wining green museum expert that is leading the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History into the Next Generation of the Green Museums from a technical, social, and cultural perspective that showcases how museums can impact and change our hearts and minds of putting mother earth first in our climate crisis. Leslie moved to Detroit in 2015, by way of San Francisco, WSU's Detroit Revitalization Fellowship program, and Arizona to do what she loves --- work in the future of greening cultural institutions from an energy, water, waste, experience, data, and innovation perspective. She is bringing data-driven tools of 3D building information modeling (BIM), Digital Twin, with sensors to service design approaches to optimize group collaborations via: staff, vendors, and visitor experience. She has started several initiatives such as the "d.Tree Studio", "Green Museum Town Hall", "Greening our Festival", and Earth Month to collectively reimagine how we look at museum operations, utility usage, and experiences. She works to preserve museum collections and opportunities to expand engagement and interpretation for African American and the environment. She is part of local, regional, and national conversations on creating a green museum movement.
