Bio

I want to give our youth the tools to speak with confidence, communicate clearly and say what they need to say but say it well. I may not be a conventional teacher with a certificate but I know I am a great teacher who gives students a platform to share their ideas, develop their skills and practice being heard. With over 30 years experience working with kids, students and teens, the Teen Talk program has been in schools in Canada since 2015 and made its way into the international market in the Dominican Republic. In addition helping youth groups like the Diller Foundation and She is the Universe, empowering students to speak their truth with structure and authenticity. The Teen Talk program was created to support students in developing the confidence they need to share their voice any time and any place so they can communicate in small, medium and large groups so they can feel seen and heard.

I'm passionate about

l can confirm that this is my passion!!! The passion for this skill comes from a place of knowing what it’s like to be paralyzed with fear when one has to speak in front of a group. It also comes from a place of knowing how you can get better. They are both realities and helping teens become masters of their own speaking power is the true gift. Teaching teens the art of public speaking to help them step into leadership roles with ease so they can do it in a way that actually feels good. The BEST part of my job?! I get to be a witness when the moment and when it finally gets to a breaking point, and students see the light that public speaking & presentations are the best and they need this skill all day, everyday! They are not all convinced but eventually they come to my side!

The TED story

I discovered TED many years ago and have been fascinated ever since. I was able to get up close & personal in 2019 when my husband landed a spot in an TEDx event in the Montreal area. Though I was on the sidelines watching the process, I took notes! The following year, I was recruited to be a coach of 2 of the speakers . In addition, I was to coach the TED Youth event that was being planned. It was all halted due to the worldly events. I ''use'' TED videos to help students understand content I am teaching or to spark conversation for a new unit. It has been a valuable resource. I look forward to this journey of learning and sharing.

Things you might not know

Seeing the potential in students/people. We all have value to share. It is in how we share it to be heard.
