About Emily
Bio
Emily Atkin is the creator and editor-in-chief of HEATED, a 75,000+ subscriber Substack newsletter dedicated to climate accountability reporting and analysis. Launched in 2019, HEATED approaches the climate crisis not as a science or environmental story, but as a high-stakes corruption, power, and disinformation story—and tells that story with moral urgency, candor, and (where appropriate) humor.
A climate and political journalist for more than a decade, Atkin has previously held reporter and editor positions at The New Republic, MSNBC, Sinclair Broadcast Group, and ThinkProgress. She’s talked about her work on television, radio, and podcasts, including CNN, MSNBC, C-SPAN and NPR. She’s partnered with publications like GQ, The Guardian, Cheddar, to bring HEATED's climate reporting to larger audiences. She’s also interviewed several high-profile figures in climate politics for HEATED, including Al Gore, John Kerry, Jane Fonda, and Stacey Abrams. She is a contributor to the climate solutions anthology "All We Can Save.”
