Bio

Laprisha Berry Daniels is a Public Health Social Worker and a health disparities dismantler. She has spent the last 20 years working to reduce health and economic disparities and improve access to culturally appropriate physical and mental health services, clean air, water, and soil, and safe and affordable housing in urban areas by developing, implementing and evaluating interventions, establishing and maintaining strategic partnerships, catalyzing relevant community centered research all while amplifying the voices of the community. Her previous work includes leadership roles in community-based participatory research at the School of Public Health at University of Michigan and the School of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University. She also served as the Director of Health Services at the Detroit Health Department and served on a special team to mitigate the impact of Covid-19 when the city was making national news for the number of confirmed Covid cases per capita. As a turnaround executive director for Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice, she ushered DWEJ into its 30th year of uniting Detroiters to work on local environmental and public health issues. She currently serves as the executive director for Planet Detroit where she sets the strategic direction for a local newsroom that produces quality climate, equity, health and environment journalism in the public interest that centers grassroots voices, holds power accountable, spotlights solutions and serves the community.
