About Sam

Bio

Sam is a British media entrepreneur who started his career filing prints and slides at legendary photographic news agency Rex Features. He quickly moved into Fleet Street, working as a photo editor at the Sunday People and Daily Mail. In 2001, Sam left the Mail to become a freelance photojournalist, covering news, events and reportage around the world for a variety of newspapers and magazines. Seeing the opportunity in the nascent online media space, Sam opened Barcroft Media Ltd in 2003 to supply exclusive content to publishers. The business became famous for breaking big stories not just in print, but increasingly online. In 2008, the company moved into documentary production for television and video platforms. This slowly became the dominant medium within the business, which leveraged its journalistic beginnings to deliver original documentaries every weekday. By 2019, Barcroft Studios had become one of the UK’s top ten social publishers with over 70 million followers, producilng original TV series for many US and UK clients including Netflix, BBC, Discovery, National Geographic, NHK and many others. Barcroft Studios was sold to Future Plc at the end of 2019, and Sam completed his exit from future in December 2020. He is now restoring an ancient farm in the Golden Valley, and runs Creatorville, a community to help content entrepreneurs to build valuable organisations.
