Dr. Musson is a public policy specialist with a focus on modern methods of construction as a catalyst for multifamily housing production and economic development. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP)®, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, and holds professional licenses as both a Real Estate Broker and General Contractor. Dr. Musson's academic background includes degrees in both Real Estate Development and Urban Planning. His urban planning education provides insight into governmental tools for influencing private development, which he has applied in practice through his policy influence in Altadena, CA, serving on the town’s Council, its Land Use Committee, and the West Altadena Project Area Committee. His formal real estate development education has equipped him to understand the perspectives of private capital, including their motives, obstacles, and constraints. Additionally, Dr. Musson holds a master's degree in supply chain management from USC’s Marshall School of Business, studying materials sourcing, processing, manufacturing, and logistics. His doctoral research at Northeastern University explores barriers to the adoption of modular, off-site construction (industrialization) as a strategy to increase multifamily housing development amid the deepening housing crisis. With two decades of consultancy experience in the international real estate development industry, Dr. Musson has provided global supply-chain management, asset management, project management, and program management to projects and programs spanning three continents. As a professor, panelist, and keynote speaker, Dr. Musson has shared his expertise in real estate finance, project management, international best practices, global logistics, and continuous improvement strategies with audiences worldwide. Dr. Musson's research has earned him the prestigious Dean's Medal for Outstanding Doctoral Work, the highest academic honor awarded by the college.

I'm passionate about industrialized modern methods of construction, so much so that my doctoral research focused on it.

We call our homes "real property" because they are attached to land, but the only "real" property is the land itself. If we understand that land improvements upgrade real property to become an asset that provides a service called "shelter" there are many ways to reimagine wealth and security, especially in places where housing (aka shelter) is in short supply. The idea requires a shift in mindset about what a home is, what property is, and what it can provide to the owner and the larger community.

I've been a fan and consumer of TED content for almost 20 years. My wife and I raised our kids on TED talks, have shared talks, trained employees with TED content, and have even written up a few ideas as <18 minute presentations, with the TED stage in mind. Sharing an idea with the world, at a TED conference, is at the top of my bucket list.
