Her wide and varied career has seen her play innovator, tastemaker, diviner of trends, and above all connector. Along the way, her path has taken many interesting twists and turns- a depth of experiences that inform her approach and capabilities. Deborah began in the clothing manufacturing industry and founded and operated two companies. Simultaneously, she obtained dual Masters’ degrees in Social Work and Gerontology. Beginning a path of social entrepreneurship, Kattler Kupetz was the founding chair of LA's largest ongoing literacy project, served as a strategist for LA City's Literacy Corps, co-founded the internet company VirtualPhilanthropy, and spearheaded alternative fundraising for Rhino Records benefiting early education. She started LA’s very first green live events company, dkkevents and Second Day Events. A TED attendee since 2002, Kattler Kupetz was part of the TEDxLA team in 2016. In 2017, Kattler Kupetz took one of the innovation systems she developed for green event planning and founded recenterpiece.com. The pandemic allowed Kattler Kupetz to dive unintentionally into virtual experiences. She curated TEDxGreenStreet and is part of Co-Reality an international collective of artists and polymaths united by Burning Man. She became a virtual producer at Sparkle, producing two virtual Burning Man experiences and segued into Category Design with a TEDster she met in 2020. This business strategy for change suits her passions for pattern, connection and differentiation. And gratitude.

I'm passionate about

Lifelong learning, intergenerational reframing, convening, energy you can feel from humans, new ideas, change, my three adult daughters & SIL's, the new ones, family, rituals, multitasking, hiking, possibility. I am very curious and really like firsts of all kinds. I'm pretty sure our hearts are meant to be the real brain and somewhere along the line we got that wrong.

An idea worth spreading

There is an art to living.

The TED story

Met RSW out of college through a friend of mine who worked with him at his ACCESS guides. He was exciting and crazy and she told me about these conferences he did that I should check out when I started an internet company. I did. I liked them a lot. Found my tribe. Always feel inspired, at home, ignited by TED and though there was something super elite and cool about the Monterey days I think it's been fabulous to see the explosion of sharing around the world. I also met my current business partner at the Virtual TED when we kept getting put into the randomized zoom rooms before the conference each day. Many of my favorite people are friends I made from TED.
