From 2012 Gavin was a Speaker Coach with TEDxPerth and, from 2018, CEO. In three years, he transformed TEDxPerth to host what was the second largest annual live TEDx audience in Australia, tripling its volunteer base, doubling its audience, securing new partnerships and growing its reach from a single annual event to also deliver a series of Salons, open-mic nights, an action-orientated Climate Leadership Summit (Countdown) and, in March 2021, TEDxYouth@Perth. In 2019 Gavin was awarded community Citizen of the Year for his commitment to TEDx in Perth. Previously, Gavin worked for over 25-years at Director and CEO level, in the commercial and not-for-profit sectors both in the UK and Australia. Now, he runs Human Orchard Consulting, his own business giving individuals and teams the skills and confidence to communicate with influence and impact. He also provides professional hosting services for public and private events. In 2021, together with five friends and collaborators, Gavin created TEDxKingsPark, to put a firm focus on science, our environment and young people.

Our environment is of fundamental importance and, from 2021, all TEDxKingsPark events will be carbon neutral and strive for certification under the Australian Government's Climate Active scheme. This carbon neutral certification is one of the most rigorous in the world and has been recognised by the European Union and the World Bank as a mature and effective model to support real reductions in emissions. TEDxKingsPark offsets unavoidable carbon emissions through reforestation projects in Western Australia, including the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor.

Having emigrated from the UK to Perth, Western Australia, I've been fortunate to be involved with TEDx since 2012. Initially volunteering as Speaker Coach and Event Host, I was subsequently super-excited to become CEO of TEDxPerth in 2018. Since 2018, in addition to our annual Flagship Conference, we grew our offering to include three Salons, Open Ideas events, Countdown and, in 2021, the team was immensely proud to present the first ever TEDxYouth@Perth (now TEDxYouth@Kings Park). TEDFest 2018 NYC was an amazing experience, which brought together 500 TEDx organisers from around the world. I also immensely enjoyed TEDxWeekendTaipei in 2019. It was a privilege to be at both events and to share in the drive, energy and optimism of our incredible global TEDx community. In 2021, working with an amazing team of longstanding TEDx volunteers, we founded TEDxKingsPark. My 'TED story' continues with more exciting times ahead!
