Karen Bouris

Karen is currently the director of the Belonging Corporate initiative at the Othering & Belonging Institute at UC Berkeley, including the CEOs Advancing Racial Equity & Belonging program. For three decades, her work has circled around the environment, social justice, and the arts, in both the nonprofit and private sectors. She has used media as a tool for movement building, designed national communications and educational campaigns, collaborated on policy initiatives, been a founding executive director, started her own business, produced an award-winning documentary and event series, and been a publisher and editor in chief. A “bridger” across sectors, movements, issues, and humans, she brings a lens of equity, psychology, spirituality, business, technology, structures and cultures.

I was the curator for TEDxMaui 2012, with 800 people, in collaboration with the founder and producer. It was thrilling. Several of our talks were picked up by TED.com, most notably Lisa Kristine's talk on Modern Day Slavery, now with almost 2 million views. TEDxMaui was a peak moment for me; it was an honor to bring the voices and stories of our speakers to an audience hungry for engagement and authenticity.
