Bio

Mona Mohammed Aburmishan is a true international comedian, public speaker and social-scientist. Born and raised in Chicago, US and Halhul, Palestine as well as Germany & the UK; Mona uses her experiences living in some of the world’s most notorious regions to understand more fully the impact of laughter and fear within the human experience and develop ways of dismantling that fear through laughter.          “When the bully can laugh at themselves, the world ceases to have bullies!”   As a stand-up comedian, producer and instructor of comedy education, Mona uses the “Comedy Club” format to create a safe environment for all to experience in a fun playful way. Designed for children and adults of all abilities, Mona encourages students to embrace the nuanced modalities of self-expression and counter-fear training to discover innovative perspectives around personal, professional and communal conflict-resolution; while also inspiring healthy business acumen.   Having produced and hosted many live comedy shows throughout the world and teaching children comedy & live production; Mona has managed to cultivate a keen eye for audience engagement, authenticity and transparency through fun exercises for thought provoking laughter, self-discovery and transformation – taking the modern day comedy experience into a new realm. Whether in her shows or her classes, she is committed to leaving all audiences feeling heard, understood and connected. Simply, Mona has taken the scariest part of public speaking – a comedy club, and translated it into a curriculum that empowers everyone to speak their truth in a way that can be easily challenged or accepted within all segments of society. Mona’s goal is for the every-day-person to experience the fear on stage and in front of a live the microphone as a symbolic gesture for facing ones fear, avoidance and possible neglect, that seems to be permeating the collective consciousness today. We might want to call her more of an Edu-tainer, than just a comedian!   Mona is the first Muslim, Arab, Palestinian and DEFINITELY 1st Khalili Woman to perform in some of the world’s most significant institutions, such as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Centre twice and on MBC’s Shahid-VIP stand up comedy series broadcast throughout the Arabic speaking world. Most notably Mona has really enjoyed cultivating new comedy audiences and talent through her comedy tours in Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Ramallah dating as far back as 2015 and was invited to deliver as TEDx Talk at Al Quds University - Abu Dis this past September.   She is a significant draw on the comedy stages around the world as her many tours throughout South Africa, Europe the United Kingdom as well as the Middle East can attest. Mona has been featured multiple times as the key headliner for significant media organizations currently being broadcast throughout the Arab and Muslim world, widely with a distribution in the billions; yet is able to keep a very low-key life sharing her time and leveraging her experiences in entertainment and academia to support students in Chicago and Palestine. Mona is clearly becoming a voice of change for women and she loves it. Please welcome: Mona Mohammed Aburmishan Mona has a Masters in International Development and loves learning and speaking multiple languages, while developing a unique eye for global comedy and the daily absurdity of frustration. Her favorite times are when she can transmute a triggering situation into a comedy bit for the stage.  As a published author, Mona and is currently running case studies on Medicine and Comedy – exploring ways in which the tools comedians use every day can create a more harmonious environment and potentially alleviate income disparities while supporting new physicians in extreme circumstances.     In honor of our more holistic era and mindfulness, as a healer Mona has also become a professional shaman, licensed energy healer and Emotion Code Practitioner as well as Yoga Instructor in service to the many entertainers and youth who seek the spotlight but know little of the isolation, depression and mental wellness it can aggravate.   Mona is committed to transforming the globe; one smile at a time and is currently working on building a revolutionary comedy academy in Palestine!   “Laughter is our divine inheritance and divine right.”
