Bio
Laurie Dean Baird is Director Technology Partnerships for Turner Broadcasting System Inc. She is responsible for global research and development partnership activities in new media, covering the areas of advanced video applications, wireless, broadband, data analytics, transmedia, social media, and emerging advertising technologies. Ms. Baird supports all of Turner’s linear, broadband and mobile properties, including CNN Worldwide, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, TNT, TBS, TCM, truTV, and Turner Sports by seeking technologies that will expand Turner’s business in the years to come. She has over 20 years of experience in corporate strategy, business development and R&D in the broadband and digital media market within start-up and Fortune 100 organizations.
Ms. Baird launched Turner’s university research program and lead the Time Warner Strategic Partnership with Stanford University - Media X. In addition, she has funded and served as an advisor to several research organizations, including MIT - Convergence Culture Consortium; University of Southern California Stevens Institute for Innovation - Arts and Media Initiative; Georgia Tech GVU Center - Future Experience Design; University of Abertay Dundee - Dare to be Digital (UK); Mobile VCE – Virtual Centre of Excellence (UK); and the Multimedia Innovation Centre (MERECL) Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She is also a member of the MIT Enterprise Forum - Global Advisory Board.
Ms. Baird has partnered with international trade groups to host “New Media Business Exchanges” to showcase emerging technology companies to Turner and the Time Warner family overall for the purposes of partnering or investments. In addition, she also led the development of an immersive “New Media Road Show” leadership program to educate Time Warner Global Executives on the state-of-the-art and future vision of entertainment-related technologies.
Ms. Baird is a patent holder, was named one of the “Most Powerful Women in Cable Technology” by Women in Cable Telecommunications and CableFax Magazine, was a finalist for Women in Technology - Women of the Year, and was recognized by the National Science Foundation and NASA for her development of innovative technologies. She holds an SM (MBA) in Management from the MIT Sloan School and a BS in Physics and a BA in Sociology from St. Lawrence University.
