Bio

I solve complicated problems with simple mechanical or visual solutions (back pain, COVID, nausea, needle fear), then tilt at windmills to get them adopted. Federally funded for neuromodulatory mechanical stimulation research on pain relief, I publish and lecture nationally and internationally on pain management, procedural sedation, and opioid alternatives. Inventions include the BARF scale for pediatric nausea, VibraCool® Vibrational Cryotherapy, Buzzy, DistrACTION cards, and DuoTherm. Buzzy® for needle pain relief has blocked pain for over 45 million needle procedures. My other parapatetic contributions include a hepatic enzyme algorithm timing child abuse, validating the BARF nausea scale for pediatric cancer patients, identifying the cause of the needle phobia increase, a prospective nasal irrigation COVID mitigation study reducing morbidity and mortality, and 10+ patents on the pain blocking frequency. Most proud of being a Wall Street Journal “Idea Person”, Innovative GA Bio CEO of the Year, a Top 10 Disruptor in Medical Tech, and turning down "Mr. Wonderful" on Shark Tank, and parent of a World Chase Tag athlete, a bouffon clown, and a brilliant editor of scripted comedy. Day job bio: Associate Clinical Professor at Augusta University. After Yale and Emory Medical School, Dr. Baxter founded the Pediatric Emergency Research program at Scottish Rite, CHOA, and is a founding member of the Society for Pediatric Sedation.

I'm passionate about

Pretty much everything - neuroscience, dopamine brain chemistry, parkour, science fiction, sewing up lacerations, shiny things, other peoples' cosplay, pain management, 200Hz vibration, 128Hz, harmonics, nasal irrigation, Charles Dodgson/ Lewis Carroll, 40Hz light, clowning, ska, bouffon, IPAs the NIH and growing herbs for cocktails.

An idea worth spreading

Most chronic low back pain is mechanical and retrainable.Pain is a summary of your brain's safety assessment; it can be wrong and convinced to recalibrate. Use physiological, control, and fear-reducing strategies.
