Bio
Hey,
I am Martijn, a PhD student at Hasselt University. More specifically I am investigating how we can improve the visualization of processes that cause diseases inside our brain, by using nanotechnology. I started with this topic after finishing my bachelor in Biomedical Sciences and master in Bioelectronics & Nanotechnology.
Currently I am also lead organizer for TEDxUHasselt together with Yves Ruland. The main rol is supervising all aspects of the organization of TEDxUHasselt events in order to achieve an efficient production in a quality manner. Timely counseling, directing, supporting and motivating of all team members in their job responsibilities, the focus laying on the TEDx spirit of creating a niche were cutting-edge ideas can be brought forward and interesting people can connect.
I'm passionate about
Communication, sharing ideas and concepts, inciting people’s thinking processes. Especially popular science communication. It is of 'uttermost' importance to inform people in an interesting manner.
An idea worth spreading
Communicate ideas, principles, knowledge, ... . Do not indulge in the asocial behavior thriving in our society nowadays. Invest your time in talking and listening to people. It is the most valuable gift you can give to someone … your time … and perhaps it might benefit you.

The TED story

That is why I have always had the greatest respect for concepts like TED and TEDx which create a place for people to learn and experience things they have never seen or heard before. I therefore took the chance to invest my own time into this wonderful experience by becoming a member of the TEDxUHasselt team. And so my TEDxstory has begun …
