Bio

Social worker turned technologist turned entrepreneur, I’m a builder who loves to create software, businesses and things that make a difference. There have been several recurring themes in my professional life: * Simple, fun, useful software * Organizing and leading successful teams * Process innovation * Making a difference * Absorption And recurring interests in my personal life: * Craftsmanship * Learning * Architecture * Social good * Design thinking * Effectiveness The company I most recently co-founded, Market Hardware, Inc., was acquired in early 2009.

I'm passionate about

Hacking the Muse using breakout moments, motivation (autonomy, mastery, purpose), GTD, and naturally-stimulating neurochemicals (especially HGH, BDNF, endorphins, epinephrine, endocannabinoids)

An idea worth spreading

The Muse - absorption, connections, concentration, creativity, innovation - can be hacked. By leveraging what we know about neurochemistry, psychiatry and psychology - with a little bit of self-experimentation - a person can reach a point of hyper-attenuation where he or she is primed for both learning and creative expression. Conscious state can be manipulated (e.g. purposefully achieving Flow) as can unconscious state (e.g. anticipating connections upon waking). This has a profound effect, certainly on individual psychological state, but also on macroeconomics where the jobs that create the highest value are based on intangible, creative output. Hacking the Muse connects mind and body in order to supercharge the productivity and happiness of individuals and groups.
