About Laurel
Bio
Laurel works for Spruce Root, an Indigenous NGO & Community Development Financial Institution focused on building regenerative economies in Southeast Alaska, home to the largest remaining temperate rainforest. Spruce Root provides backbone support to the Sustainable Southeast Partnership, a collective impact network of Tribes, businesses, NGOs, and changemakers, invested in building healthy communities, lands, and waters. We work together to address complex social, environmental, and economic challenges through purposeful collaboration.
Currently working on growing the Seacoast Trust, a quasi-endowment and perpetual funding source for the Sustainable Southeast Partnership, part of a growing movement to center Indigenous values in capital and environmental stewardship.
BA in political science and minor in religious studies from the University of Victoria, BC Canada, and MS in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University/MA in Conflict Resolution & Mediterranean Security from the University of Malta.
Interested in learning more about creative funding mechanisms and financial products that meet the needs of indigenous communities; financial sovereignty; carbon sequestration; carbon credits; egenerative economies and ecosystems.
