Bio

I grew up in the US and did my clinical psychology training there. I left California in 1990 for the United Kingdom and I have lived here ever since. As a clinical psychologist, I have spent the last 35+ doing assessment for Family Court, working with couples, families and children particularly around trauma, relationship issues with some work with folks who have personality disorder. I also enjoy doing personal development therapy. As a sex & intimacy coach and GSRD therapist, I have spent these years working with people of all genders and sexual orientations to facilitate the creation and maintenance of dynamic, exciting, long lasting relationships that include sizzling sex (without the shame). I specialise in thinking outside the box and helping others to do the same. My podcast the A to Z of Sex® has inspired people to talk about sex rather than just thinking about it. I write two blogs, articles, short stories and have six books published. I specialise in working with gender, sex & relationship diversity (LGBTQ+, consensual non-monogamy, kink & bdsm), trauma. I have been touring the UK since 2023 with a few talks, the most requested one is ‘The Psychology of Fetish & Kink’ which is described as a cross between education and stand up comedy (because laughter makes it easier to ask the embarrassing questions). In May 2020, I published my erotic memoir 'Dancing the Edge to Surrender: An Erotic Memoir of Trauma and Survival'. In January 2021, I published the companion self-help book, 'Dancing the Edge to Reclaiming Your Reality: Essential Life Skills for Gaslighting (and Trauma) Survivors'. A collection of my erotica was released in March 2021. Personally, I am a bisexual married woman in a polyamorous relationship that contains an authority transfer dynamic. I have one son who is 23 years old and who is no longer embarrassed by his mom talking about sex in public. I am highly spiritual and have studied a wide variety of spiritual beliefs and disciplines. My challenges: I live in spite of a collection of autoimmune diseases, am a trauma survivor who no longer has PTSD. My joys: My partners, family (bio and chosen), my friends, playing piano, playing cello, reading, writing, my dogs, meeting and connecting with people from all over and all backgrounds.

I'm passionate about

Creating, enhancing and encouraging authenticity in life and in relationships. Living with integrity, joy and connection to others.

An idea worth spreading

1. You are not broken. You are just missing skills. So many people come to therapy believing they are broken. I have found over the past 38 years that though many have issues, almost all are missing emotional, coping, and relationship skills. People can learn skills at any age and they make a huge difference to life satisfaction as well as success. Skills are not taught in school and people generally learn from watching caregivers. Since many caregivers are missing skills, the negative patterns are perpetuated. Teaching these skills should be a priority from a young age. If we did this, we could help heal the intense societal divides that plague us. 2. Life is not made up of black and white but rather contains infinite shades of grey. We all contain contradictions. If we can learn to embrace our contradictions and the contradictions of others, and get comfortable with nuanced conversations, the world will become a far more peaceful place.
