Bio

Dr. Smith has 20 years of progressive and diverse experience in health care and nonprofit management. Dr. Smith has worked in academic and not-for-profit health care settings. In her current position, she is serves as Senior Vice President for Business Operations for the Regulatory Affairs Professional Society (RAPS). A global membership organization of over 12,000 regulatory professionals working in the rapidly growing medical device, pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors. In her role as SVP of Business Operations Dr. Smith will oversee core operational departments and other related services. Prior to that Dr. Smith served as COO for the American Academy of Physician Assistants, a national organization representing the Physician Assistant Profession; in addition, to serving as the COO of Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), a national nonprofit organization representing the state and territorial public health agencies of the United States, the U.S. Territories, and the District of Columbia. Preceding her positions at AAPA and ASTHO, Dr. Smith served as Assistant Vice President, where she was responsible for overseeing the central research office at MedStar Research Institute a subsidiary of MedStar Health, a fully integrated hospital network of 7 tertiary care hospitals. Other executive leadership positions include management of the MedStar’s immunogentics laboratories, the Center for Disability and Rehabilitation Research at the National Rehabilitation Hospital, and Manager of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center Solid Organ Transplant Program. Dr. Smith holds a Doctorate of Health Administration from the Medical University of South Carolina, a Masters in Health Administration and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Colorado. Dr. Smith is a certified research administrator, through the Research Administrators Certification Council, and recognized by the Society of Research Administrators International. Dr. Smith is an active member of the Zonta’s International serving on the board of directors for the Washington DC Chapter from 2010-2011; in addition, she is a member of the Women Business Leaders of the U.S. Health Care Industry Foundation (WBL) and serves on the Wake Forest University Parent’s Advisory Council as well as other nonprofit boards.
