Bio

An editor and curator who has produced books, exhibitions, and conferences, Chee Pearlman was named Design Curator of TED Conferences in 2016. Most recently she was the director of Chee Company, a New York based editorial and design consultancy, undertaking projects such as serving as founding curator of the Curry Stone Prize, guest curating the acclaimed "Isaac Mizrahi: An Unruly History" exhibition at New York’s Jewish Museum, and serving as program director for the Art Center Design Conference, a bi-annual gathering of design leaders and innovation provocateurs. During two decades as a design journalist, Chee contributed to the New York Times, Newsweek, Travel and Leisure, Wired, Popular Science, and the Architect’s Newspaper and spent her early career as editor-in-chief of I.D. Magazine, which was honored with five National Magazine Awards under her direction. She is the author of Isaac Mizrahi: An Unruly History (Yale) has edited several books including Spectacle, by David Rockwell and Bruce Mau; Made You Look, by Stefan Sagmeister; Perverse Optimist, by Tibor Kalman. She also curated the groundbreaking "Voting Booth Project” exhibition at the New School, where 50 designers, architects, and artists reimagined Florida's "butterfly ballot" voting booths used in the contested 2000 presidential election. Chee has served on numerous juries, including the Rome Prize, the National Endowment for the Arts, IDSA/Businessweek, the American Society of Magazine Editors Awards, and the James Beard Awards. She also founded and co-chaired the Chrysler Design Award for its 10-year duration. She has hosted and presented at many symposia and conferences, including the AIGA National Design Conference, the Magazine Publishers Association Conference, and the annual TED Conference, and is a speaking coach and longtime member of the TED Conference Brain Trust. She has served the national boards of the American Society of Magazine Editors, the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, and the Art Directors Club.
