Bio
With a remarkable 31-year career in marketing communication within the nonprofit sector, Trenay Perry Bynum has left an indelible mark across diverse fields such as health care, mental health, legal, publishing, and the arts. Recently transitioning from the public sector, Bynum embarked on an encore career as an assistant professor dedicated to shaping the next generation of strategic communication professionals. In her role at Belmont University, Bynum is currently an advisor for Tower Creative Communications and a chartering advisor for the National Pan-Hellenic Council.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Bynum passionately advocates for college-bound youth to recognize the broader impact of media, extending beyond social platforms. Holding a TEDx license, she has curated a platform for students to share insights on STEAM at TEDxYouthJeffersonStreet.
A lifelong learner, Bynum is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in strategic media. Her research delves into the influence of social media on college recruiters tasked with recruiting high school student-athletes. Bynum’s research may offer valuable insights that could reshape athletic recruitment practices in light of the new era of name, image, and likeness policies set by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Bynum holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from the HBCU Tennessee State University. Her commitment to HBCUs is evident through her role as an advisory board member of HBCU Honors™️, an inaugural award program recognizing the excellence of HBCUs. She also has a master’s degree in public service management from Cumberland University.
I'm passionate about
Youth discovering their unique voices.
An idea worth spreading
We are on this earth to contribute our unique gifts. Discovering our gifts may come from our journey through challenges, interactions with others, or other life changing moments. My desire is to inspire students to unify their gifts with their unique voice to leave a positive impact ... on everything.

The TED story
Coming into the knowledge that LEARNING is a strength of mine changed my entire life. My team participated in personality and skills testing on the first day on my new job at a mental health organization. StrengthsFinder showed me my top strength as a LEARNER. Everything about me became clear and led to my current career as an educator. I use TEDxYouth as an extension of my classroom to teach the important skills of discovering their strengths, gifts and voice - all needed for REAL LIFE BRANDING.
