Bio

I became interested in alternative healing therapies in 1988, following an extreme accident/awakening - a bicycling accident that resulted in multiple injuries, including internal bleeding and a fractured skull. With an intuitive awareness that my specific injuries were part of a greater system that included the entire body, as well as the subtle and crucial energetic aspects of the brain, I felt compelled to seek out a more physically dynamic and holistic approach to healing my injuries than anything traditional western medicine had to offer. Serendipity and common sense led me to yoga. In 1993, after years of intensive study and practice, I began to teach. Since then I have taught at the Center for Yoga and the Forrest Yoga Circle, and founded/co-founded YogaDen and OmWorks, where I produced and participated in prose/poetry/speaking events along with yoga classes, retreats and workshops. I am the founder of Swami O’Bryan’s Yoga Studio, where I currently teach and practice Portal Yoga. Private and corporate clients have included Madonna, Keith Addis, Michael Costigan, Tim Daly, Gil Bellows, Harold Becker, Dean Chamberlain, The Chadwick School, The Ritz Carlton – Pasadena, Loews Hotel Santa Monica, First Interstate Bank, BP Petroleum and The Gas Company. I also specialize in on-site classes (businesses, film shoots, tours) and private pre- and post-natal yoga. I define the practice of yoga as a dialogue you can have with your physical body that allows you to be comfortable in your own skin. In a culture that is often bereft of a profound connection to the sensual aspect of what it means to be in a human body, one loses sight of what a gift and delight that is, and that that pleasure is a birthright. From 2005 - 2010, I managed raw dairy sales at Los Angeles Farmer's markets for Organic Pastures, one of the two farms in California that are selling raw dairy. I currently represent St. Benoit Yogurt and EatWell Farms. This allows me to draw from my experiences being raised on a dairy farm and to support sustainable agriculture and farming. In addition, I am a co-founder, with Christine Chessen, of CReMA (California Raw Milk Association), a consumer group that supports pro-raw dairy legislation and raw dairy producers in the state of California. I have authored “Red Teacups”, “Reliance and the ’65 Dodge”, and “ You Can’t Argue With a Raindrop”, all published by Riders of the Divine Yeehah Press.

An idea worth spreading

-There can be enough to go around for everybody -On a spherical planet, there is no such thing as "up" or "down", there is only "out" and "in" -One way of "making love stay" can be to admit that you'll never truly know fully the one you love. -In relationships, one way of keeping the channels of communication open is to not build a "case"against the one you love or are working with. Building a case also seems to build a wall. When one catches oneself doing it and literally admitting to it, channels and possibilities for resolution open. -Substitute the word "and" for "but" in a sentence and see if your perspective changes. -Theory - Humans are born not fully gestated. 9 months in the womb. Then 9 months until being able to walk. Most animals are able to walk after 3 days -Grumbling about power makers and politics seems to be a massive energy drain. -Mothers milk changes every day to be suitable for growth. -We are all bacterio-sapiens

The TED story

I work at the farmers market in Hollywood, California every Sunday morning selling raw dairy. I have a friend who always approaches the milk stand from the south. She always approaches smiling and as bright as the sun. One Sunday, she stops to chat and tells me about her first TEDx event that she had produced a couple of weeks before. I had heard of the TED conferences but not of TEDx so I asked her to tell me a little more about it. She proceeded to do and finished by expressing her desire to sponsor another event. "I would like to do one that combines music with physics with music. I have no idea where to find a scientist who is working with both." My jaw drops open. "I have the scientist!" I reply. I had wanted to produce an event involving a scientist based at UCLA who is recording the sounds that cells make. We decided that we would collaborate together in producing the next event. We registered TEDxLAMiraclemile, produced a successful event and became lovers.
