Bio

Ian Yee is an award-winning and Peabody-nominated investigative journalist and impact documentary producer. In 2020, he and his crew co-founded The Fourth, Malaysia's first ever independent, not-for-profit investigative and social impact media company. Ian strongly believes in the role of investigative journalism as the Fourth Estate — it tackles social injustice and defends freedoms by holding those in power accountable, and giving a voice to the oppressed. His work with The Fourth team has seen him selected as an Obama Foundation Leader, Acumen Fellow, Pulitzer Centre advisory committee member, UK International Leaders Programme fellow, UNICEF national consultant, and Bertha Foundation Fellow. The Fourth uses hard-hitting investigative documentaries and creative digital media campaigns to tackle social injustice. Their work has seen them expose human traffickers, drug traffickers, child sexual abuse networks, wildlife smuggling syndicates, police corruption, and more. Their investigative projects have led to landmark legislative reforms on child sexual crimes, arrests of drug syndicate leaders, dismantling of human trafficking networks, and a sizeable refugee community being saved from forced repatriation. They have also won over 40 major awards in journalism, marketing, filmmaking, and activism. As a not-for-profit social enterprise, The Fourth funds its investigative work through training & educational programmes for young people and professionals alike, with courses on everything from digital content creation to investigative journalism. The Fourth also funds itself through commercial content production, specialising in impact media campaigns for NGOs, CSOs, and corporate CSR/ESG programmes.
