Dr. Jeanine Pfeiffer is an ethnoecologist working collaboratively with indigenous peoples and local communities throughout the world for over twenty-five years. The author of Once Sacred Fruits – Human and Cultural Ecology of the Manggarai, Flores Island Indonesia: Community-Based Biocultural Diversity (2012), and a Fulbright scholar, NSF, and NIH grantee, Dr. Pfeiffer has published meta-analyses of biocultural diversity in major scientific journals, and edited several volumes on ecosystem conservation. Her path-breaking applied research on natural resource use and management, social welfare, and development has improved policies and practices for national and tribal governments and international aid organizations throughout the world. Dr. Pfeiffer’s award-winning essays can be also found in the Bellevue Literary Review, Hippocampus, Between the Lines, Langscape, and Nowhere; her poetry routinely appears on Dan Robert’s spoken-word radio show Rhythm Running River on KZYX&Z, Mendocino County’s public broadcasting station. Based in Northern California, she serves as a scientific advisor for local government, tribes, and community organizations, and teaches environmental sciences at San José State University.
