About Clemens

I am a…

Blogger, Brainstormer, Engineer, Foodie, Idea generator, Photographer, Student, Technologist, Web guru, World traveler

Bio

Clemens Wan is an Electrical Engineering Master's and Bachelors graduate from Cooper Union. He currently has been bitten by the travel bug and feels the need to explore his career choices through backpacking while researching at various Universities in Japan and Germany. He keeps a blog of these travels (http://seelemonslive.com) and tries to use these experiences to find the career that will suit him best. The bulk of his research has been involved with artificial intelligence applications to robotics, but his main interests within these new cultural environments involves learning new languages, new customs, and finding new hobbies. With a constant and persistent search for happiness, he maintains productivity while trying to stray from any particular routine. The working world scares him to death, but not because he's not qualified - every interest just seems to fight for his attention like a child with ADHD in a room full of shiny objects. He feels like a jack of all trades, but a master in none and it's scary that he must make sacrifices to become an expert in a particular field. The more he learns about the world, the less he feels like he knows, and despite the obvious downward spiral towards realizing his insignificance, this seems to be a motivation more than a discouragement. Hopefully, he will find a place to call home and just be happy with his contributions towards the community he influences - whether it involves immediate family members and friends, or a large social network of random followers and acquaintances, there will be a group that will miss him.

I'm passionate about

An idea worth spreading

Life is about the little things. Live in the moment, but be sure to keep something - a few sentences about your day, an interesting fact you've learned, a bottle cap from a new beer, a funny quirk about a friend, a fortune cookie from a chinese takeout dinner, a torn movie ticket, a way you've made someone smile, something to be grateful for in life, anything and everything really - and just make sure you remember it to make today and tomorrow a better place for everyone. Life does flash before your eyes before you die - it's called living.

Areas of expertise

Artificial Inteligence, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Fixed Income Securities

The TED story

I've shared TED talks with my social feed and friends for the past 5 years. I've always referred to it as youtube for smart people. All of the talks are inspiring in one way or another and it has been integrated into my daily routine. I have many aspirations in my life time and one of them is to present my own TED talk. (Another one is to be on the Colbert Report).
