Bio

I recently finished my 34th year of public school teaching. This year I trained with the Center for Mind-Body Medicine (Cmbm.org) to find the calm in myself and nurture post traumatic growth in my students following the February 14, 2018 massacre at my high school in Parkland, Florida. I founded the Mind Body Ambassador Club at my school and along with a parent of one of my students we have currently trained over 40 students in stress reduction techniques. After taking part in an after school training program the students are sharing their skills with their peers to help build resiliency and post traumatic growth in our community. We are working to bring our model to other schools throughout the county. I'm passionate about

Nurturing post traumatic growth in school shooting survivors.

An idea worth spreading

Teaching mind-body skills in schools is just as important as teaching math skills. If we are going to require students to take part in monthly active shooter drills in our schools then we need to become responsible and teach healthy coping and stress reduction skills.

The TED story

Briar Goldberg, Ted speaker coach and Columbine shooting survivor reached out to me following the shooting at my high school. Her friendship gave me focus, hope, and inspiration. Following my TED talk I became confident that I would be able to move forward with my grief. As a result, I was able to find the calm in myself and bring a year of healing, learning, and love to my students.
