About Dean

I am a…

Connector, Explorer, Idea generator, Journalist, Marketer, Parent, World traveler, Writer/Editor

Bio

I write. I tell stories. I pass messages to people. When i was 10 they were messages written on pieces of paper, hand delivered. Now they are multi-channel, multi-patform, multi-timezone, multi-device, multi-multi. They used to be my own thoughts and messages. Then as a journalist they become others' thoughts and messages translated by me and re-interpreted by sub-editors and editors. Then as an editor I would do that to my journalists. Now as a marketer, they are thoughts and messages crafted with an outcome in mind to elicit the response desired. It's like being a corporate wingman. It's been a wonderful journey - Australia, Ireland, New York working on newspapers, writing stories and crazy headlines, building websites and apps and all the time exploring new ways to communicate, watching humans evolve from social beings to social media beings. The journey continues.

I'm passionate about

How people communicate; indian cooking; anything that links the heart and the mind; coaching sport and playing with websites.

An idea worth spreading

People only ever want to tell their story - whether it is in the Big Brother confession chamber or 140 characters on Twitter. The challenge is providing the right environment for the right person at the right time. Once that confluence occurs, the stories spring forth like a fountain. Then it's time to listen. Stop asking. Stop waiting for your turn. Stop moving. Stop looking ahead. Just listen - every story is worth hearing at least once.

The TED story

I have watched TED for years. I browse TED. I look at TED on my iPad more than I watch TV Finally I have been motivated to get involved. Really involved. In February 2015 I organise my first TED Talk - the soon to be famous TEDxGriffithUniversity!I want it to be rich, soulful, interesting, fun and a celebration of human spirit, mind and power.
