The TED story
Hi everyone!
I'm Umme Habiba Chhipa, currently studying Educational Leadership and Management at Iqra University, but my life has been a whirlwind of experiences beyond just academics.
Let's start from the beginning. I grew up as the third daughter in my family, in a society where having sons was highly valued. My dad especially felt this pressure, and my mom faced serious health issues when I was born. Despite these challenges, my mom fought for us to get a good education.
School wasn't easy for me. I went to a nearby school in Karachi, where the main focus was on getting top grades. But I was more laid-back and didn't stress about grades like others did. This made me an easy target for bullies, who teased me for not getting top marks.
Things didn't get easier in college. I failed my chemistry exam in 12th grade, but I was too scared to tell anyone. I pretended I got a good grade to avoid judgment. Even when I started my BBA at the same university, I faced more academic struggles.
But then something amazing happened. I attended a TEDx event at NED University, and it changed everything. Inspired by the talks, I decided to share my own experiences on social media. It wasn't easy, though. People made fun of me for posting pictures publicly, but I didn't let it stop me.
I also started doing internships, where I worked with underprivileged communities. It opened my eyes to how lucky I was and inspired me to make a difference. Despite facing family challenges, like convincing them to let me attend international conferences, I never gave up.
Even though I faced setbacks, like failing exams multiple times, I kept pushing forward. Eventually, my hard work paid off, and I got opportunities to organize conferences and events, like Pakistan's First Gender Equality conference and TEDxAzadiStreet.
Now, I'm still studying, taking online courses, and working hard to achieve my goals. And through it all, I owe everything to my parents, who supported me every step of the way.
My journey is proof that with determination and perseverance, you can overcome any obstacle and achieve your dreams. So, never give up, no matter how tough things get.
