Bio
My name is Jamie and I am in my mid 20's living in Los Angeles. I grew up in a small beach town in CA and grew up kayaking, hiking, and spending a lot of time outside. Now I have been living in LA for over 7 years but very often find myself traveling out of the country to experience new cultures such as those in Costa Rica, Armenia and Italy to name a few.
I have a degree in Communication Studies from California State Northridge and I truly love learning about people and interpersonal relationships and use my knowledge from university every day in my life.
I have been super fortunate to have amazing jobs! My first big career was at Tesla where I worked for 4 years (hired at 19 and left at 22). Tesla gave me such great perspective about sustainability, people and the greater good. Even though I have been gone for several years, I have carried that perspective with me into all of my jobs and consider myself to be motivated by saving the world in some way shape or form.
My current professional path has shifted quite a bit since our small startup company, Flo Technologies, has recently been acquired by Fortune Brands (Moen). It has been so fun to go from working at a 50 person startup to a huge corporation. I am learning so much about business and how merging companies works. I am very fortunate to have made it through the merger on the other side so I can grow beyond my startup experience and embrace my newest role as a project manager.
Some of my hobbies outside of work lately have been focused around meditation and working out. But on my days off I also love to go wine tasting or take a girls road trip. I also love to go to local car shows when they are around and Im obsessed with Dax Shepards podcast "Armchair Expert".
Something I truly value in life are my friendships, especially my female ones. I feel like when Im in a room with my girlfriends, we could part seas. I am recently realizing women are truly the epicenter of the universe. I am excited to expand my circle and learn about life through the eyes of the women at this TED conference. I cant WAIT for wisdom and connections I will come across and I am already certain I will carry this knowledge from this conference for the rest of my life.
I'm passionate about
People, Women, Friendships, interpersonal relationships, Sustainability, Cars.
An idea worth spreading
Drive through Pizza places, Women only gyms
The TED story
I feel lucky to have grown up in classrooms that use TED talks in their curriculum. I think my earliest memory of watching a TED talk was in my high school english class. Then In college my professors ALWAYS had us watch ted talks to help us better understand big picture topics especially in my philosophy classes.
Now here I am in my Mid 20's and I watch Ted talks on youtube all the time! I also often listen to the TED talks daily podcasts or TED radio hour on my commute to work. I feel like it's such a blessing to have so much knowledge from so many people available at our finger tips.
Things you might not know
I am surprisingly good at makeup even though I don't have a background in beauty. My girlfriends are always asking my advice on makeup products and often ask me to do their makeup if they are going on a date or to an event.
I also feel like I'm a good writer- I have never shared my work with anyone but sometimes ill journal or go on a writing tangent about an issue and feel like it could be published.
