Bio
I'm a serial social-enterpreneur always interested in expanding the impacts on sustainable management of our forest and planet. I've designed/implemented/co-founded a series of organizations and initiatives like Imaflora (imaflora.org), SEEG (see.eco.br) and MapBiomas (mapbiomas.org).
I've spend some time in the government between 2003-2009 serving as Chief of Forest Service and Secretary of the National Forest Commission. During this period I've worked on the design and implementation of the National Plan to Combat Deforestation, the Amazon Fund (one of the largest forest protection funds worldwide), the Brazilian targets to reduce GHG emissions. Later I've developed the System to Estimate GHG Emissions in Brazil (SEEG) - the largest dataset on GHG emissions for any country, and MapBiomas a multi-institutional initiative to tell the history of each 30x30m piece of Brazil year by year in the last three decades.
I serve on the board of various organizations and initiatives such as Business Forum on Climate Change, Rainforest Alliance, Imazon, Imaflora and IEMA and teaches at post-graduate programs on sustainability-related issues. I'm a Visiting Scholar at Princeton University.
I write about innovation and sustainability at O GLOBO newspaper and Época Negócios (business magazine)
