Rejoining IBM/Red Hat in 2020 to design a strategy focused on sustainability for IBM’s Energy, Environment and Utility Industries; Elle brings global, commercial development experience at the intersection of IT/data analytics and greentech and from growing seven new enterprises in the US and China. She is an entrepreneur in spirit, natural builder of ecosystems and classically trained by IBM. Upon moving home to the US in 2016 after fifteen years in China and at the request of Georgetown University, her alma mater; she launched a global institute of sustainability. Between 2002-15, she was the senior-most leader in Beijing in charge of four new enterprises in China: IBM Global Services – Financial Services Sector, Red Hat, the China Greentech Initiative, and the Paulson Institute. The China Greentech Initiative (CGTI), 2008-14, as a market maker, advanced a billion-dollar industry by enabling collaboration on solutions among diverse senior business and government leaders from 200 institutions from 40 countries. CGTI’s annual China Greentech Report became known as the ‘voice’ of the industry and informed Chinese Central Government policies. Hank Paulson subsequently merged China Greentech into his Paulson Institute to establish his policy-influence organization in Beijing. Elle’s prior and current board and advisory roles span the Bloomberg New Economy Forum, EarthDNA.org, Greentech Capital Advisors and The Performance Theater. She is an alumna of Georgetown University; an avid athlete and traveler; mother of two young professionals, Chloe at the Matthew Marks Gallery in NYC and Luke a PhD candidate in the Department of Marine Science at UC-Santa Barbara; and born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the second eldest of seven children.
