I'm passionate about
I am passionate about using poetry as a multimodal text (written/oral, visual and audio) to engage learners with mild intellectual disabilities in reading.
An idea worth spreading
Language in use and how it is articulated and represented to convey meaning in the area of reading literacy. Once learners connect to the message by way of their individual schema, reading may become a more enjoyable process within the community of learners.

The TED story
On the campus of Howard University there is the atmosphere of transformation, rebuilding and growth. Working in the Graduate School's Office of the Dean, I interact with scholars across all disciplines with great ideas. I was astounded to learn that very few of them had heard about TED. Recognizing what a great platform TED would be to help promote and unveil some of the outstanding research and work that is being done, I proposed to the Dean to allow me to create a TED satellite post. Further, when I heard his presentation at one of the forums on campus, I felt in this climate of STEM across the country, his demonstration is one for the masses of all ages. This seemed to coincide with the initiatives of the TED organization and now, I'm trying to coordinate this alliance to be a win-win situation for TED, Howard University, the Washington, DC metropolitan area and the global community.
Things you might not know
People don't know that I am good at cooking, the creation and performance of poetry, hosting events and listening.
