I am a…

Artist, Athlete, Connector, Educator/Teacher, Musician, Performer, Producer, Single, World traveler

Bio

As of 2002, I have recorded 10 albums under the moniker "Joan As Police Woman". I am not a cop. I studied violin classically, taught myself to play several instruments and write songs. I have toured the world in a variety of bands in a variety of genres. I am thrilled by collaboration. I've made music with Lou Reed, Rufus Wainwright, Meshell Ndegeocello, Antony & The Johnsons, Damon Albarn, Laurie Anderson and tons of others who don't have as famous names but who are just as cool.

I'm passionate about

listening, writing songs, the infiniteness of music and rhythm, the intangibility of this universal language and how and why sound makes us emotional, consciousness, thoughtfulness, chocolate, Ethiopian music, papaya, the experience of live music, lyric writing and how it differs from poetry, reading, sweating, ocean swimming, music history, humor, the feeling of laughter, Medjool dates, all the new discoveries on plant communication, architecture, biking, patterns in nature, soul music, getting along, the euphoria of stepping into a forest, solutions, broccoli rabe, textiles, the kora, the harmonium, chamber music, ego death, improv of all types, staying alive
