Bio

Hello, my name is Shion Yumino. I have been a member of TEDxSapporo for four years now. I initially started attending salon events doing volunteer work during my college days, and gradually transitioned into a more active staff role. I love meeting new people. I’m curious. And I try to learn lots from the people I meet. Absolutely! I thrive on mingling with all sorts of folks, learning from each interaction. At TEDx, I'm all about embracing fresh ideas and backing up those who bring them. My goal? To help our local community flourish by sparking creativity and teamwork. Thanks for listening to my spiel! Can't wait to dive into projects together at TEDxSapporo!

I'm passionate about

I am very interested in connecting with people. As mentioned in the section about ideas, everyone has different interests and abilities. That's why I believe it's important to share and connect, and I love explosive ideas that come from those connections. Currently, I am using my knowledge in medicine, VR, AR, IT, and other fields that I cultivated during my student years to work on environmental conservation, urban development, and solving community issues. I am deeply interested in how I can solve these problems and I am passionate about assembling the right teams to address them. I love to think deeply. When I'm deep in thought, various ideas come to mind, and I feel like my lifespan is not enough to explore them all. I am involved in environmental conservation efforts for wetlands, although I didn't know much about wetlands myself. However, I learned about their importance through university lectures. Therefore, I am interested in how to convey the significance of wetlands to the younger generation and what kind of content can be provided to those who are not familiar with wetlands to increase their interest. I am working on creating characters and developing VR content for wetlands.

An idea worth spreading

From a young age, I often heard the phrase "Learn from others' behavior and reflect on your own." It would come up even when I was being scolded by my parents. However, this saying emphasizes the importance of comparing our actions and attitudes with those of others to strive for self-improvement. It's a valuable lesson for personal growth through observing others' actions and learning from their mistakes. As a child, I tended to associate this phrase with being scolded, viewing it negatively. But recently, I've started to see it in a more positive light. Through my journey of growth, I've met many friends, teachers, and adults, and learned from their experiences and lessons. Hearing about the failures and successes they experienced when they were young, I realized that I could use their experiences to further my own growth. However, pretending to know something without truly understanding it often led to obstacles. From these experiences, I've learned the importance of inheriting wisdom from adults and predecessors. I believe it's crucial to approach the wisdom of our elders with respect. While respecting others may seem simple, it's often challenging, yet it holds significant value. Learning doesn't just come from adults. Friends of the same age and people from all over the world have lived different lives and seen different landscapes. Wouldn't it be wonderful to share the diverse experiences and perspectives of everyone and open new doors together? It's not just about sharing, but also about holding mutual respect for each other and sharing our experiences. I believe that's what truly matters.

The TED story

My first encounter with TEDxSapporo was when a university lecturer invited me to a barbecue party at his home, where I discovered it was actually an event attended by staff and speakers. From there, I started volunteering and eventually became a part of the staff. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we couldn't hold conference events, but during that time, I initiated a project to interview past speakers and explore their current activities. As the situation improved slightly, we began organizing salon events, discussing topics like climate change, and collaborating with speakers on speech preparations.

Things you might not know

First, I am good at impersonating people. I have a keen sense of observation and often mimic my friends or celebrities, imitating their speech patterns and gestures. I can also imitate animal sounds. Second, I am good at finding the positive aspects in people. I enjoy observing people, so I can quickly find something to compliment them on. I can also suggest ways to capitalize on their strengths and offer guidance on how to enhance them. Of course, I can easily identify areas where they may need improvement as well. However, preferences for individuals vary greatly, so please take these observations with a grain of salt.
