Bio
I currently serve as Director of the Prairie View A & M University Honors Program and also a tenured Professor in the Department of Biology in the Marvin D. and June Samuel Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences.
I earned his B.S. from Jackson State University, M.S. from Auburn University, and Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. I have worked to promote an environment conducive for student advancement, growth, creativity, outreach and discovery. I have been extensively involved in student activities such as advisement, recruitment, retention, inquiry-based learning, study abroad student learning, infusion of technology in student learning, internal and external funded research, service activities both internally and externally, and project administration. During my tenure at PVAMU, I have taught both undergraduate and graduate courses, served as research mentor, participated in assessment initiatives, managed grants, supervised student workers, and served on university, departmental and professional society committees.
Combined with my dedication to mentoring and my strength in the classroom has resulted in a number of teaching awards, including the Dr. Wright’s President’s Faculty Teaching Award, five Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Awards, and the Faculty of the Year Awards in the Department of Biology. Most recently, along with nine other U.S. higher education administrators participated in the U.S. Embassy in Mexico’s 2019 Study Abroad Development Tour and received the Prairie View A & M University 2020 Global Engagement Faculty Award, 2023 Staff Teamwork Award, 2024 Academic Advising Award, 2025 PV Choice Award for Faculty of the Year. I am committed to the development of the students to prepare for global leadership.
To summarize, I am striving to impact as many students on the journey improving the education and training for all students. I am a promoter to not just read about history but make History.
I'm passionate about
Learning, creating and discovery
An idea worth spreading
Refusing to accept no as the final answer leads an individual to pursue goals and dream outside of their environment. Growing up in a family with 10 children has taught me that can’t is not the first word to use when presented with a new idea or challenge.
