Bio
Dennis Wales is an education leader and Director of Divine Public School, Kollam, on a mission to challenge the way we define learning.
He believes that the true purpose of education is not to produce perfect answers, but to nurture fearless thinkers young individuals who can question, communicate, and create with confidence. In a system often driven by marks and metrics, Dennis is working to build spaces where curiosity is valued, voices are heard, and ideas take center stage.
His work focuses on shifting classrooms from passive listening to active expression where students are not just taught what to think, but empowered to discover how to think. By fostering a culture of dialogue, creativity, and leadership, he is helping students step beyond comfort zones and into their own potential.
At the core of his philosophy is a powerful conviction: when young people are given the space to speak, they don’t just share ideas they begin to understand themselves, their purpose, and their ability to shape the world around them.
For Dennis, education is not preparation for life it is life itself, unfolding in every student who dares to think differently and speak boldly.
I'm passionate about
I am passionate about helping young people discover their voice and recognize their own potential. I believe confidence and self expression can change the direction of a life, and that schools must create spaces where students feel safe to question, speak, create, and lead.
At Divine Public School in Kollam, my work is guided by the conviction that education should nurture courage, empathy, creativity, and independent thinking not just academic performance. I am deeply committed to building platforms where students can share ideas, explore diverse perspectives, and develop the confidence to participate meaningfully in society.
I am especially drawn to the power of storytelling. Through script writing, theatre, and cinema, I see how stories help young people understand themselves, build empathy, and imagine new possibilities. Storytelling transforms learning into lived experience and gives students a language to express emotions, identity, and hope.
I believe that when education embraces creativity and narrative, it does more than inform it humanizes, connects, and inspires. When young people feel heard and empowered, they begin to see themselves not merely as learners, but as contributors capable of shaping a more thoughtful and compassionate world.
The TED story
I didn’t start this journey to organize an event. I started it to understand why so many young voices remain unheard.
In my work at Divine Public School in Kollam, I began to notice something striking. The students who transformed the most were not always the highest scorers. They were the ones who discovered their voice the moment they stood up to ask a question, share an idea, perform on stage, or speak despite their fear.
That moment often changed how they saw themselves.
It made me rethink education.
Perhaps schools are not meant only to deliver information. Perhaps they exist to help young people realize that their thoughts matter, their stories have value, and their perspectives deserve to be heard.
TEDxDivine Public School Youth grew from this belief. It is not merely an event; it is a space where ideas are respected, stories are shared, and young people begin to see themselves as contributors to the world rather than observers of it.
Because when a young person feels heard, confidence begins.
When confidence begins, participation follows.
And when participation grows, communities change.
I continue this journey with a simple conviction:
When we give young people a stage, they do not just speak they discover their place in the world.
Things you might not know
Many people know me as an administrator and educator, but few know how deeply I enjoy mentoring students one-on-one, helping them overcome stage fear, and guiding them to discover their inner confidence.
I also have a keen interest in event curation and storytelling crafting experiences that inspire audiences and create lasting emotional impact.
