Bio
Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor is a Harvard trained and published neuroanatomist. In 1996 she experienced a major hemorrhage in the left half of her brain. She could not walk, talk, read, write, or recall any of her life. It took eight years for her to completely recover all function. In 2008, her memoir My Stroke of Insight spent 63 weeks on the NY Times bestseller list. She gave the first TED talk that ever went viral and was chosen as one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World. Her new book Whole Brain Living launched in 2021 and is now being widely used to help people differentiate their two emotional and two cognitive modules of cells and their resultant character profiles.
Whole Brain Living is helping people live a less stressful and more peaceful life. For over half a century, we have been trained to believe that our brains have two parts: the emotional right hemisphere and the rational left hemisphere. But this is not technically true. Each of our brain hemispheres has both an emotional and a thinking module of cells. Consequently, we have left thinking, left emotional, right emotional, and right thinking parts of our brain. Each of these four parts not only exhibit unique skill sets, but they each give rise to four distinct and predictable character profiles. Once we identify each of our own Four Characters, we can train them to not only respect one another, but to work together as a healthy team. By doing so, we can choose to feel balanced and peaceful rather than feeling stressed and anxious - in any situation.
I'm passionate about
I always say that I am an inch wide and a mile deep. I care passionately about our beautiful brain and our ability to choose who and how we want to be in the world. Deep inner peace is just a thought away and by getting to know each of the Four Characters that arise from our limbic and cognitive brain tissue, we can create balance in our brains and live our best life. I am also passionate about neuroplasticity and our ability to recover from neurological trauma far beyond what traditional medicine teaches us.

The TED story
A major deep dive into my own brain: I was a brain scientist at Harvard when I experienced a major hemorrhage and lost the function of the left half of my brain. This rare form of stroke rendered me completely disabled whereby I could not walk, talk, read, write, or recall any of my life. In the absence of communication with the external world, I discovered that the experience of deep inner peace occurs at the core of our right mind when the language centers in our left mind are silenced. It took eight years for me to completely recover all cognitive and physical functions. With a heart filled with gratitude, I share what I have learned about my two emotional and two thinking parts of my brain. Thanks to this ironic experience, I believe we all have much more power over what is going on between our ears than we have ever been taught.

living on a boat six months a year. From May 1 - Nov 1, I live on an 80' riverboat out in an isolated cove on a beautiful lake in KY. My heart and soul thrive in the majestic friendship of the turtles, family of great blue heron, the eagles, the beaver and the geological life that is eons old.
