Bio

Farwiza Farhan is an environmental advocate and forest conservationist known for her dedicated work in protecting the Leuser Ecosystem in Sumatra, Indonesia. As the chairperson of the Forest, Nature and Environment Aceh Foundation (HAkA), she leads policy and advocacy efforts to promote inclusive conservation involving Indigenous communities, policymakers, and NGOs. Farhan's commitment to community engagement in environmental decision-making is evident in her initiatives to empower local stakeholders and promote women's involvement in conservation efforts. Currently pursuing a Ph.D., her research focuses on the political economy of natural resource management in Aceh, with a specific emphasis on the Leuser ecosystem. Farhan's passion for environmental conservation and her inclusive approach to conservation efforts have earned her recognition, including the 2022 National Geographic Wayfinder Award.
