The TED story
In early 2014 I attended a “Social Media Week” conference, where the leaders of TEDxCopenhagen gave a fantastic presentation about their organisation, the community involved and the work that goes on behind the scenes to bring these amazing ideas into the world.
I was captivated and ready to grab them after the presentation, asking “where do I sign up? How do I get involved?”, when a noisy chap interrupted their talk from the back row, shouting about “I’ve been working over at CBS (Copenhagen Business School) this week, there are some very sharp students there! Why isn't there a student TEDx in Denmark?” – the speakers indulged his rude interruption and said very fairly and frankly that they would love to see young people in Denmark take the initiative and create a TEDx for students, and that they would love to help anyone willing to take the responsibility. Should the noisy chap be interested in creating one, then come talk to them afterwards and they would help anyway they could. The man immediately mumbled excuses about not having the time, but in that instant I knew what was needed to be done.
Fast forward a year and an incredible adventure later and TEDxKEA had “Emerged”, we had grown to a team of more than 40 volunteers, representing 17 nationalities and successfully set the stage for brilliant ideas to shine in our community.
