After graduating from Oxford with a Masters Degree in Modern History, I spent thirty years in Financial Services. I then moved to the Bay Area as CFO of an electric car company, Better Place. Over the past ten years I have focused on working with companies as an advisor or Board member in three areas of particular interest. Financial Services. Sustainability. And Chess. Over the past fifteen years I have served on the board of numerous public and private financial services companies. These include Alliance Bernstein, Julius Baer Group, Deutsche Boerse, Equitable Holdings (all current), as well as CommonBond Inc., The London Metal Exchange, Panmure Gordon. I founded Green and Blue Advisors in 2010 to assist companies helping “make our planet greener and bluer” with strategic decisions and capital raising. We have worked with numerous such companies large and small. In 2016 I joined the Board of Play Magnus, a Norwegian company founded by the World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen. Our goal is to make chess playing, learning, coaching and entertainment more accessible to the hundreds of millions of people who play the Royal Game. I live in New York City today with my partner Robin Zendell, and I have four children - Lucy, Kate, James and Archie and one newly minted “in law” Tim - all of whom presently live in London.

Working with emerging entrepreneurs and helping them succeed

We need to completely reimagine the purpose of education. We need to develop in young people at an early age an array of life skills to equip them to live a more relevant and balanced life. What would an educational curriculum look like if we were starting with a blank sheet of paper? Let’s develop one and debate it. What practical skills do proper need for the 21st century and beyond? What emotional support do we need to provide in our hyper connected and transparent world?
