Bio
Moementum founder Moe Carrick describes what she does simply: help people do their best work. Moe grounds her approach in a unifying and undeniable truth: successful work is dependent upon human relationships. Her work begins and ends at the critical juncture where people and organizations must solve root issues while simultaneously sustaining the motivation to become better. Moe’s varied contributions to people and organizations have consistently stimulated positive ripple effects with direct and favorable impact to the bottom line. Having worked herself for many years in the outdoor education arena as an instructor for Outward Bound and the National Outdoor Leadership school, she continues to strive to bring adventure into her client engagements in big and small ways. Moe received her Master’s Degree in Organizational management, and then worked internally for several large Northwest companies, including McCaw Cellular and Multicare Medical System. She founded Moementum in 2001 as a boutique consulting firm and feels privileged to work with clients currently such as REI, Prudential Financial, Nike, TechSoft3D, The Nature Conservancy, and many others. Moe believes that courageous vulnerability is key to having hard conversations that matter, and finds that in the world of work worldwide, the hard stuff is the soft stuff. Her lifelong adventurous spirit and story-telling prowess coupled with her inspirational, witty, and humorous style, earn Moe rave reviews following keynote addresses, training events, and consulting experiences. Moe lives with her family in Bend, OR.
Moe’s bestselling book, FIT Matters: How to Love Your Job was released in May 2017.
I'm passionate about
I am impassioned about creating workplaces tomorrow that work for all. In particular, that facilitate people contributing their best work without sacrificing their whole lives, both men and women.
An idea worth spreading
Until men and women can materially negotiate the cultural norms and pressures that affect their world views, we will continue to craft work environments that require superheros not humans, and some of the best talent available will leave formal workplaces to form micro companies or tend to their families in disillusionment. For men, this means finding the courage for them to claim what meaningful activities draw them, not only at work, but also in life, and to begin to share the economic burden materially with women so that they can participate in a complete life. For women, this means finding brave hearts to let go of managing childcare, elder care, and family life at home 100%, and giving themselves permission to value their economic contribution equally to men. In this way, men will show up as fathers, partners, and community citizens more fully and women will show up in workplaces with their ideas and contributions adding value everyday.

The TED story
I am inspired by the oodles of speakers I have heard, in my local TedX Bend event and from the website. One of my mentors, Brene´Brown gracefully rocked my world with her first talk on vulnerability, ad I became hooked. I am thrilled to have the chance to attend the TED Women event in Monterey this year, especially because the theme shares the name of my business, Moementum, Inc! Right after Monterey I will return home and Co-Chair our local TedXBendWomen event with the inimitable Rane Johnson, celebrating local women making a difference in our community and globally. Ted invites provocative thinking, and stimulates deep dialogue, which matters more than we know. I would be over the moon happy and honored to some day be invited to speak at a Ted event and I work hard to refine and share my story to make a difference.
