Bio
An eco-preneur, event manager and professional communicator. My main goal in life is to mainstream sustainability and enjoy a good quality of life while doing it. That drives me to constantly seek balance and learn new things. In 2013, I co-founded and launched a new events management company called DIG (Do It Green), which specializes in creating zero-waste events. In a very short period of time, DIG has worked on some of Calgary's largest and most prestigious events.
My professional background includes seven years of sustainability work with two of Canada's largest energy companies, where I implemented corporate strategies, policies, reporting, and community relations programs. I also co-founded and served as Vice Chair for the World Petroleum Council Youth Committee, which provides opportunities for students and junior energy employees to engage senior oil and gas leaders from around the world and drive change.
Prior to my time in the energy industry, I worked in the international development sector focused on water, health and education issues. This work included a four month assignment in East Africa.
I have managed two federal political campaigns in Calgary and worked across the spectrum in various roles with different political parties. My community work includes my board of directors roles with the Calgary Folk Music Festival and Connecting Environmental Professionals. I am also a co-organizer for TEDxYYC and co-founder of the Marda Loop Justice Film Festival.
I live in Calgary with my inspiring and supportive fiance, Kate.
I'm passionate about
Mainstreaming sustainability, contributing to my community, social entrepreneurship, water, waste and energy issues.
An idea worth spreading
Music festivals, sporting events and even TED conferences have an environmental impact and produce significant waste. My idea is to make "zero-waste" events the standard for every large gathering and empowering audience members to take simple but effective steps towards reducing waste, water and energy impacts.
