Bio

Eithah Ali Almaghafi, I was born on October 14th 1987. I am a graduate of Arts and Translation, University of Science and Technology 2008/2009. My great interest in child education got me the chance in February 2009 to be the youngest primary teacher trainer at Hornby Summer School- British Council. At the same time, I started working with children's books at Yemen Book Shop the main distributor of Oxford University Press which continued until now. In April 2009, I became a member of the Global Change Makers Yemen; one of the British Council projects that ended in late 2011. As a global change maker, I participated in taking the action of I Love My Book campaign that was established by the Global Change Makers. In 2011, by the ending of the GCM project, the team decided to hand in the campaign responsibilities to me to continue the campaign with a new chosen team. Since August 2011, I have been the team leader of the campaign that continued working in corporation with Life Makers Forum until the beginning of 2014 to start its corporation with Hemmat Shabab Foundation. In February 2012, I chose to work as a primary English teacher at Yemen International School, and in June of the same year I became an English instructor at Exceed Language Center. On November 13th 2013 I was one of TEDxSanaa speakers. I talked about the campaign and how reading could change the whole world around us. My biggest dream is to be a part of the national process of raising awareness on the importance of reading.

I'm passionate about

contributing in others' lives by being part of the change they seek; such as, making a student find about his inner talents through activities done inside the classroom.

An idea worth spreading

Joining learning with fun has always been an idea that is worth spread. Being an educator made me realize the great role I play in the learner's life with the information I would be trying to give. Through my teaching career I have looked for creative ways which draw students' attention and make them learn more and faster. Being aware that reading is one of the main aspects in making a change in a person's life we had to think of ways that will let young readers enjoy this act. That is when the " I Love My Book" campaign started in 2009. We try to always find the best and the most fun activity that would make us reach our goals.

The TED story

It all started when I was on the red carpet on TEDxSanaa 2013 stage. I thought about how great it would be if young people could participate and be part of the TEDx events. I once had a conversation with a student telling me about how he plans to change the community, I wished then that I could let his voice reach the world. Later on, when I knew about TEDx and I myself was a part of this event, I thought about how I could let such student let his voice be heard. I had the advice then from a good friend and the support from TEDxSanaa organizers to give it a try and apply for TEDxYouth and that this could be what I am looking for. I was not fully sure at the beginning but watching TEDx talks by teens and kids made me decide and work on my application to organize TEDxYouth@BabAlYaman for the first time in Yemen.
