She also serves as a mentor to students who are interested in a career in women's health. Women's Voices for Change believes that this phase of life is about self discovery, empowerment, and opportunity. The goal of this site is to create an accurate, vital portrait of who women over 40 really are and what they contribute to the world. Dr. Allen has written and spoken extensively about women in the second half of their lives. She inspires women to use the menopausal transition as a time for self-evaluation, reinvention or evolution. She provides women with accurate information on all aspects of health and encourages each woman to start in her forties to create the woman she wants to be for the rest of her life.Dr. Allen attended the Lindsey Wilson College in her home town of Columbia, Kentucky and then completed her undergraduate work at the University of Louisville. She received an honorary Doctorate from Lindsey Wilson College in 2004. Dr. Allen maintains close ties to her home state and is a member of the board of the University of Louisville-Kentucky Author Forum. She is active in social issues that impact the health of women in Kentucky and is involved with Planned Parenthood of Kentucky. Dr. Allen is a member of the American Medical Association, New York County Medical Society,New York State Medical Society, The Weill Cornell Alumnae Association, The North American Menopause Society. She is a member of the Cosmopolitan Club and the New York Junior League.
