Jennifer Murphy

Jennifer Murphy is an award-winning writer and performer whose work has been published in numerous literary journals and anthologies. A recipient of the PEN Oakland-Josephine Miles Literary Award honoring excellence in multicultural literature, she has performed at Joe’s Pub at The Public Theater, Knitting Factory and The Nuyorican Poets Café, among other performance venues. Murphy also maintains a parallel career as a private investigator, specializing in online investigations, crisis communications, and threat monitoring for high-consequence events. A thought leader in her field, she speaks often at security conferences on topics ranging from active shooter preparedness to digital risk management, and is considered one of the top crisis management advisers in the country. Murphy received a B.A. with honors from Syracuse University where she was a Remembrance Scholar and three-time MVP and All Big East selection for Women's Volleyball, inducted into the Syracuse Orange Plus Hall of Fame in 2003. She holds an MA from the University of Chicago and an MFA in fiction writing from NYU, where she assisted with the NYU Veterans Writing Program. She lives in Brooklyn and is currently working on a novel.
