Bio
I was born in Peru and came to the United States in 2007 to study at the University of Texas at Brownsville on a full scholarship due to my chess achievements. As a former professional chess player (I'm an International Master), I traveled to many countries and learned that there's beauty and inspiration everywhere, even in the unsightly. Today I want to make a difference in the city that welcomed me with open arms.

An idea worth spreading
#downtownBrownsville, an effort to change the negative perception of Brownsville's urban core by leveraging the popularity of hashtags in social media. Recently started, the use of this hashtag highlights the area in social network platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Along with my friend Miriam, we are getting together the owners of downtown businesses so they take action in different aspects; as far as the general public, we're happy to see that many people have caught the bug and are taking pics of their lunch, drink, or themselves along with a hastag of the place they're in and #downtownBrownsville .
